When Huda is elected, she will not only represent the values and work to achieve the shared vision of Canada's New Democratic Party, but also the priorities of our community in Ottawa South.

Affordable Housing

To confront the increasingly out of reach cost of housing across Canada, Huda and the NDP will act swiftly:

• Building 500,000 truly affordable homes

• Prioritize cooperative, rent to own, and social housing models

• A retroactive rental support benefit, to support those who have struggled to make rent during Covid-19

• Implement a 20% tax on foreign home ownership.

While the Liberals subsidize the construction of units that cost more than the average market rate, you can trust the NDP to confront the housing crisis in a meaningful way.

Confronting Systemic Racism

"In my career, I have seen first hand how prejudice against racialized Canadians, women, LGBTQ2+ communities, and religious communities puts Canadians in danger, in part by failing to identify far-right terrorism. As MP, I will continue to work to make us all safer by advocating for significant reform of our Government institutions."

Part of this work means advocating for justice for Indigenous peoples and actively confronting ongoing injustices and broken promises. 

Canada's Green New Deal

The NDP’s plan will protect our air, water and land, and create good paying jobs for workers. It will make our communities more accessible through free public transportation.  This work must be done alongside First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities working as equal partners in job creation and infrastructure investments that deal with climate change.

Ottawa's skies are choked with smoke while Northern Ontario and British Columbia battle ever-worsening wildfires. Despite all of this, Trudeau’s Liberal Government has failed to act in a meaningful way to meet the challenge of reducing emissions. They bought a pipeline and continue to subsidize big polluters.

Tackling Student Loan Debt

No young person should have to start out their life under a mountain of debt. That’s why Jagmeet Singh and our NDP MPs are fighting to support young Canadians with student debt relief, and working towards free tuition.

The Liberals took $3 billion from students in interest payments over the last four years. Canadians deserve a government that won’t make a profit off their debt.

Dental and Pharmacare

​Huda understands nobody should have to choose between healthcare access and putting food on the table. Huda and the NDP team will work to:

• Fully cover Prescription Medications

• Fully cover Dental care

• Expand coverage for Mental Health Care

• Remove profits from long-term care facilities

• Increase health transfer payments to provinces to help build a stronger, more equitable system.

Canada lags behind in 10th of the 11 wealthiest countries when it comes to health care. We can and must do better.
